Possible vs Probable/Impossible vs Improbable
Probable implies that there is a very high chance or likelihood that a certain event might occur. On the other hand, possible means that the subject might happen or might not happen.
Probable暗含某事“很有可 能发生”。Possible意味着某事“可能发生，也可能不发生”。
If something is possible, it can happen. But possible does not mean that something will happen for certain. If there is a 10% chance of rain today, it is possible that it will rain. It could rain, but there is a 90% chance that it will not rain.
如果一件事用possible来形容，表示可能会发生，但并不意味着某事一定会发生。如果今天有10%的机会下雨，可以用possible，可能会下，但还有90%的可能性不会下雨。
If something is probable, there is a good chance that it will happen, but it is not certain. If there is a 90% chance of rain today, it is probable/likely that it will rain.
如果一件事用probable来形容，表示这件事极有可能发生，但不确定。如果今天有90%的机会下雨，可以用probable/likely。
★ It is possible for the car to [=the car can] reach speeds of more than 120 miles per hour.
★ 这辆车有可能[能够]达到每小时120英里以上的速度。
★ It's possible to see Venus with the naked eye if the sky isn’t cloudy.
★ 如果天空没有阴云，用肉眼也有可能看到金星。
★ Frost is possible, although unlikely, at this time of year.

★ He hoped to retake the test but the teacher said it is not possible.

★ The police think it is probable that the burglar lives in this area.

★ It was probable that the students cheated, given their scores on the practice test.

Possibly vs Probably
The Pursuit of Happiness《幸福来敲门》:
Son: Are we going to the game?

Dad: I said possibly we’re going to the game. You know what “possibly” means?

Possibility vs Probability
★ If you have bought a lottery ticket, there is a possibility that you will win a prize. [It’s not likely to happen, but we cannot rule out the possibility.]
★ 如果你买了彩票，有可能会中奖。[虽然这种可能性不大，但我们不能排除这种可能性]。
★ What had seemed impossible now seemed a distinct possibility.
★ 过去看似不可能的事，现在似乎大有可能。
★ There is now no possibility that she will make a full recovery.
★ 她现在已不可能完全康复。
★ There is a 60% probability that the population will be infected with the disease.
★ 民众感染这种疾病的概率为60%。
★ It now seems a probability rather than just a possibility.
★ 这件事似乎十拿九稳，而不是仅有可能。
