元宵节定在正月十五，相传始于汉朝。这天是新年的第一个月圆之夜，人们吃元宵、汤圆，逛灯会、猜灯谜。

Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month and sees the first full moon of the new year. According to legend, this festival began in the Han Dynasty. People eat Yuanxiao or Tangyuan, visit lantern exhibitions and guess lantern riddles.

元宵主要流行于北方，汤圆流行于南方。两者都是用糯米粉制成的球状食品，寓意团团圆圆，红红火火。

Yuanxiao is mainly popular in the north, and Tangyuan is popular in the south. Both are balls made of glutinous rice flour, symbolizing reunion and prosperity.

灯会的习俗相传从唐代开始兴盛，从此沿袭下来。在这一天，各种花灯琳琅满目，生动地描绘了中国传统文化的意象和符号。人们结伴出游欣赏花灯美景，感受着处处喜乐的氛围。

It’s said that the custom of visiting lantern exhibition prevailed in Tang Dynasty and was inherited from then on. On this day, there are various exquisite lanterns vividly illustrating traditional Chinese imagery and symbols. People hang out and appreciate the beautiful scene together, immersing themselves in the atmosphere of joy everywhere.
